Over the years, hundreds of teens and adult leaders have been introduced to genuine Catholic service and built lasting friendships on this beloved service trip. Do it for the fun, do it for the friendships, do it for the service of God and others, do it for the opportunity to re-engage with a world in need, do it for a week away … just don’t let your kids miss this life-changing opportunity!
The projected expense of operating the project is $9,000, including materials, food, gas, and truck rental for the tools. All costs are higher this year than in previous years. To cover the expenses, each teen participant pays $250 and is then challenged to raise an additional $400. This can be quite challenging when there is more than one teen from a family, such is the case in several families this year. If you would like to sponsor a Teen participant, send your contribution to the parish office, donate online or drop off at the church. Make sure you designate your donation for the Summer Service Project. There is still plenty of room for more teens to be involved. Contact the parish office for more details.
The trip will be from July 31 to Aug. 6 and is open to all high school students, including those entering the 9th grade, and adult leaders. Interested participants can respond to this email and sign up below:
Details: Location: On Sunday 7/31, we will travel via carpool/caravan to Preston County, West Virginia. We stay at Camp Galilee, a youth camp in Terra Alta, WV. We return home on Saturday 8/6.
Home Repair Program: During the week, we’ll participate in the Summer Home Repair Program sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Preston County. The kids will break up into groups supervised by our adult leaders and work on various home repair projects for needy families in Preston County.
Type of Work: The work ranges from handicap ramps, to roof repairs and everything in between. One of our leaders, who is a NJ contractor, will have scouted the jobs before the trip to be comfortable that we can complete the work and that the job site is appropriate. The kids don’t need any experience.
Fun and Catholic: The trip promises to be fun and rewarding. Camp Galilee offers basketball and volleyball courts, a lake and other activities in the beautiful hills of West Virginia. The environment is Catholic and kids build lasting relationships.
